The University provides its students a living and learning environment which nurtures their development for leadership in academics, athletics, campus governance, and in their future pursuits.Grambling State University is seeking to hire a full-time Communication Officer 1 in University Police Department to receive incoming calls for police services and dispatch officers as appropriate.AN IDEAL CANDIDATE SHOULD POSSESS THE FOLLOWING COMPETENCIES:Communicating Effectively : The ability to convey information, ideas, and emotions using structured communication methods that promote understanding and engagement.Demonstrating Accountability : The ability to take ownership of actions, behaviors, performance, decisions, and outcomes.Focusing on Customers: The ability to understand and meet the needs, preferences, and experiences of internal and external customers.Accepting Direction: The ability to be open and willing to follow guidance or instructions.Acting with Ethics and Integrity : The ability to make choices that reflect ethical standards, integrity and honesty, regardless of circumstances or personal benefit.Following Policies and Procedures: The ability to follow, reinforce, adapt, or develop policies and procedures to maintain compliance with federal and state legal requirements, State Civil Service rules, and organizational policies.Managing Time: The ability to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and allocate time to ensure timely completion of work goals.Six months of experience in transmitting and receiving messages by radio or in administrative services; ORSix months of training in a business or clerical-related curriculum in a business school or technical institute; ORFifteen semester hours of college training.NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:All persons appointed to this job will be required by the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) and Louisiana State Police Terminal Operator Certification Program Guidelines to meet the terminal operator certification/re-certification requirement within six months of employment.An applicant who has been convicted of a felony or who is under indictment on a felony charge will be disqualified until relief from the disabilities imposed by state and federal laws is granted.Job Duties:Receives calls concerning crimes, emergencies, and other requests for police assistance; monitors and responds to 911 calls from the University system, as well as from campus "Blue Light" emergency telephones and Mobile App.Determines nature and location of call; determine priority of calls and dispatch units accordingly.Keep watch commander and field supervisor informed of field situations.Performs advanced level duties which requires complete independence.Position - Specific Details:Appointment Type: Probational, Promotional, 6.5(g) or Job AppointmentCareer Progression: Communications Officer 1, 2 or 3Standard Work Schedule:6:00 AM-6:00 PM6:00 PM-6:00 AMHours are subject to change.CompensationThis is the minimum compensation that may be offered.
